A recording material is prepared having a support (e.g., of paper and/or a polymer) on which is a layer containing polymeric (e.g., polyurea) microcapsules preferably of Tg 80 to 150 DEG C containing a light-absorbent (preferably carbon black in a coverage of 0.1 to 10 g/m<2>, optionally with a dye or pigment), a polymeric binder and an oil-soluble solvent. The recording material is placed or wrapped around, a heated roller and heated to 10 to 50 DEG C below the Tg of the microcapsules whilst being patternwise irradiated with a laser beam which makes the capsules walls more easily broken; the image-receiving film is then wrapped around the irradiated material and pressure of 40 to 490 Pa x 10<5> exerted, whereby a visible negative image of the light-absorbent and binder is formed on the image-receiving film. If the receiving film is transparent, both films can be initially placed in contact and exposure made through the receiving film with a beam focussed on the film interface; and a positive image is then also formed in the receiving film. The method gives a good image of high density using a low-power laser.
|
