PURPOSE:To increase the active material utilization rate and the discharge voltage of a pressed nickel electrode by adding cobalt hydroxide, bismuth oxide and silver oxide to the said electrode. CONSTITUTION:Mixture consisting of nickel hydroxide powder used as a nickel active material, graphite powder used as a conductive material and polystyrene powder used as a binding agent is added and mixed with cobalt hydroxide and at least one compound of bismuth oxide and silver oxide. Next, this mixture is packed into a current collecting body such as a nickel net so that a layer of proper thickness is formed over the body, and the layer formed over the body is pressed at 120 deg.C so as to make a pressed electrode. Here, the ratios of cobalt hydroxide, bismuth oxide and silver oxide to the former mixture are preferred to be 1-15wt%, 4-10wt% and 0.5-10wt%, respectively. |
