PURPOSE:To titled lubricating oil, consisting of a specific alkylbenzene obtained by reacting propylene polymer with a benzene, etc., capable of preventing seizure abrasion and fatigue damage and giving improved rust preventing and cooling properties, and usable for the traction drive. CONSTITUTION:Propylene is polymerized in the presence of a phosphoric acid catalyst at a high pressure and temperature to give propylene polymer, which is then reacted with benzene, toluene or xylene in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst, e.g. allminum chloride, to afford an alkylbenzene having a boiling range (expressed in terms of ordinary pressure) of 250-450 deg.C, e.g. isododecylbenzene of the propylene tetramer type. A small amount of a mineral oil, another naphthenic oil, etc. and an additive are contained in the resultant alkylbenzene to give the aimed lubricating oil. |
