The present invention relates to a footwear assembly and partial sole components therefor, wherein the assembly comprises corresponding peripheral and central outsole pieces, and an upper. The peripheral outsole piece surrounds a substantially open, elongated central region circumscribed along a first edge thereof. A corresponding upper is adapted to be secured to the peripheral outsole piece along a depending peripheral edge thereof. The corresponding central outsole piece has a bottom outsole portion and a top portion, with the bottom outsole portion being adapted to extend through the substantially open central region of the peripheral outsole piece, in interfitting relation therewith. The top portion is adapted, with the bottom outsole portion positioned in interfitting relation within the open region, to overlie at least a portion of the peripheral outsole piece and to be secured in mutually fixed relation therewith.
