PURPOSE:To depress the surface activity and improve the thermal stability by bringing a hollow carbon powder into contact with fluorine gas optionally diluted with an inert gas, thereby incorporating fluorine into the carbon powder. CONSTITUTION:A substantially amorphous, hollow carbon powder having a specific surface area of 500m<2> or more an iodine adsorption of 500mg/g or more, and a DBR absorption of 250ml/100g or more is brought into contact with fluorine gas, optionally diluted with an inert gas to a fluorine concn. of 5-60vol.%, at a temp. higher than room temp. and lower than 200 deg.C to produce a carbon powder having a fluorine content of 10-80wt.% and a volume resistivity of 10<0>-10<12>OMEGA.cm. |
