The unit has an engine, and a transmission to drive a propeller shaft. Engine (2) and transmission (4) are located on a common carrier (6), which is supported by the ship's hull (10) via elastic elements (34), and thereby insulated against transmission of vibration. The carrier is connected to the hull via a connection device (12), which absorbs axial tension forces and pressure forces of the propeller shaft (8), via an axial bearing (28) and the carrier, and transmit these to the hull, in axial or axis-parallel direction of the shaft. It simultaneously permits radial movement of the unit motor, transmission, carrier, radially to the shaft, relative to the hull. USE/ADVANTAGE - Elastic mounting for ships engine reduces transmission of structure-borne noise.
