The chuck accommodates driven rotary or stationary tools in a machine tool as desired, having a rotary spindle in bearings and with a mounting at one end for rotary tools. The spindle is lockable in one or more predetermined angular positions. The locking mechanism consists of a disc brake (7) at the mounting end (5) of the spindle. The disc (6) is clamped in different angular positions by shoes actuated by hydraulic rams. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple and reliable chuck, there being no load on the spindle bearings when using a stationary tool.
