New 4-substd.-2,6-difluorobenzonitrile cpds. are of formula (I), where Y = 1-12C alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyl(oxy) or oxaalkyl, one of A1 and A2 = a pyridin-2,5-diyl or pyrimidin-2,5-diyl gp. and the other = trans-1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-phenylene gp. one of Z1 and Z2 = a single bond and the other = -CH2CH2- or a single bond, and m = 0 or 1 provided that if m = 1, Z1 = Z2 = a single bond one of A1 and A2 = pyrimidin-2,5-diyl and the other = 1,4-phenylene then A1 = pyrimidin-2,5-diyl. (I) can be prepd. (not claimed) by standard methods, e.g. as described in Houben-Weyl Methoden der Organoischen Chemie, Georg-Thieme-Verlag, Stuttgart, vol. IX, p. 867ff.
