PURPOSE:To reduce deterioration in extinction ratio by forming plural split grooves which generate a holder radially almost in the direction of the holder shaft from the sleeve fitting-in side end part to the intermediate part of the holder, and releasing stress which is generated by welding. CONSTITUTION:The split grooves 13 penetrate the holder 11 radially almost in the holder shaft direction from the fitting-in side end part of the holder 11 for a sleeve 5 to the intermediate part of the holder 11. The sleeve 5 fitting-in side end part C of the holder 11 and the inside parts D of the split grooves 13 are welded by a laser to fix an optical fiber assembly 1 to a semiconductor assembly 6. Therefore, the internal stress generated between the holder 11 and sleeve 5 by the laser welding is released. Consequently, unnecessary force due to the stress does not operate on a polarization plane maintaining fiber 2 and the deterioration in the extinction ratio can be reduced. |
