Cine cartoon films are prepared by the use of superposed displaceably or deformable two-dimensional elements, horizontally mounted and each comprising a part of a complete cartoon figure, these elements being manipulated by an operator and continuously photographed to provide animation of the complete figure. The displaceable inter-connected elements, (17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23) as in Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) are pivotally mounted on the transparent plates (13a, 13b, 13c, 13d), which are manipulated through handles (16), and which are placed between spaced fixed masking plates (9) hinged together at (11). A slotted finger (14) on each plate (13) engages a pin on the underlying plate (9). Camera 3 is mounted on rails 6 vertically above the apertures 10 in Plates 9, and lamp 8, which may be tubular, are mounted around the camera lens (3a) as in Fig. 3 (not shown). More than one figure may be used in the apparatus. Unwanted reflections may be avoided the use of polarised light with filters. Ultraviolet light may be used with fluorescent movable elements. In another embodiment, the head (31) of a figure 13 made of deformable sheet material and is manually deformed through rods(33) attached at points (32) of the head, as in Figs.7, 8 (not shown). The limbs and body are movable through plates 13 as before. In another form, plates 13 are independently slidable on horizontal bars. The figure elements may be magnetically controlled, and a fixed, movable or deformable back ground sheet may be placed below the bottom movable plate if opaque, or on top of the stack if transparent.</p> |
