METHOD FOR SEPARATING STEREOISOMER

PURPOSE:To separate stereoisomers of beta-lactams by using a separating agent consisting essentially of a polysaccharide derivative in which part or all of H in OH or NH2 of polysaccharide is substituted with an ester, urethane or ether bond. CONSTITUTION:A separating agent consisting essentially of a polysaccharide derivative in which part or all of H in OH or NH2 of a polysaccharide is substituted with an atomic group expressed by formula I or II or the formula -R(R is 1-30C group having at least one asymmetric center) is used to separate stereoisomers expressed by formula III (R1 to R4 are H or 1-30C substituent group). The aforementioned polysaccharide derivative as a separating agent is readily applied to liquid chromatography by a method for filling the polysaccharide ad powder in a column. Furthermore, the polysaccharide derivative is preferably supported on a cellular organic or inorganic carrier for improving pressure resisting ability of the separating agent.
