Low-alloy, high-abrasion resistant and tough cast iron, suitable for production of castings, containing by weight 1.8 to 3.6 % carbon, 1.2 to 5.0 % manganese, 0.5 to 1.9 % copper, 0.2 to 0.8 % silicon, 0.01 to 0.5 % phosphorus, 0.005 to 0.08 % sulphur, also containing 0.05 to 0.3 % titanium or zirconium or calcium of cerium, or rare earth metals, possibly their combination and preferably with 0.01 to 1.3 % boron. The advantage of this cast iron, apart from its high abrasion resistance, which is balanced while achieving optimum structure of the abrasion resistant cast iron high-alloyed with chromium, is low production cost, as favourably priced alloys are used for alloying, whose content is lower than for currently produced cast iron.
