PURPOSE:To utilize an active carbon present in the interior and improve an active carbon function by specifically treating the active carbon in calcining a principal material of an organic binder carbonizable by calcination and the active carbon and providing a granular active carbon formed product. CONSTITUTION:An organic binder carbonizable by calcination and active carbon are previously adhered to the surface of a granular substance vaporizable and consumable above a temperature at which the aforementioned organic binder starts decomposition and carbonization as a core substance and the resultant substance is calcined to afford a hollow active carbon formed product. In the process, active carbon having fine powder, present at the time of starting volume shrinkage in calcining, consumable after calcining by heating therein and applied to the outer surface thereof is used as the above-mentioned active carbon. The active carbon and the organic binder are prevented from directly contacting with the fine powder and further the carbide skeleton of the organic binder is left as columnar protrusions directing to the active carbon surface according to the aforementioned method. Furthermore, although the formed product assumes a hollow state by vaporization and consumption of the core substance, the hollow parts communicate with the outside. |
