A compact safety device for motor vehicle passengers has a roll bar (2, 33, 34) which can be moved into its deployed final position by elastic pretensioning means (13, 27) when a crash-induced signal is emitted and into the deployed or lowered final position by an additional drive (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 17, 18). The roll bar (2, 33, 34) moves essentially in a plane perpendicular to the vehicle steering axis. At least one head-rest is provided on the roll bar (2, 33, 34). |
