An exhaust silencing and treating device comprises a chamber 2 having a bellows inlet end 8, with tangential inlet pipe 1, connected by a curved wall portion 9, which is convex towards the axis 6, to a substantially cylindrical outlet 10. Treating materials such as air, oxygen or steam may be admitted through an inlet 12. In an opposed cylinder engine (17, Fig. 2, not shown) separate chambers (15, 16) are connected to the exhaust of the cylinders. The casing may be of iron and thermally insulated . |
