PURPOSE:To make characteristics stable for a long period, to obtain high reliability, and to facilitate the manufacture by providing optical waveguides, a control electrode which is provided nearby it, an insulator film which is formed on the electrode, and a conductor film which is formed on the insulator film. CONSTITUTION:The optical control device consists of the optical waveguides 2 and 3 formed on a dielectric crystal substrate 1 with electrooptic effect, the control electrode 5 provided nearby the optical waveguides 2 and 3, the insulator film 10 formed on the electrode, and the conductor film 11 formed on the insulator film. Namely, the thin insulator film 10 is formed on the control electrode and the conductor film 11 is further formed of metal, etc., thereupon. The resistance value between the control electrodes increases because of the presence of the insulator film 10 and a current flowing between the control electrode decreases until it can nearly be ignored. Consequently, the characteristics are stable for a long period, the reliability is high, and the manufacture is facilitated. |
