The subject of the invention is a process for decontaminating, using peracid solutions, materials contaminated by toxic agents, characterised in that the contaminated material is brought into contact with a solution , at a pH of between 6 and 8, of peracid of general formula RCO3H (1) in which R designates an alkyl group containing 7 to 17 carbon atoms. Application to the decontamination of fragile materials such as electronic circuits or avionic equipment contaminated by organophosphorus compounds and/or vesicants.
