Fibre-reinforced gypsum article prodn. e.g. for fibre board - by moulding autoclave-treated slurry of di:hydrate and fibres

Fibre-reinforced gypsum-based articles are made by (a) mixing an aq. slurry of finely divided dihydrate with 1-40 wt.% fibrous additive; (b) transferring the mixt. to an autoclave for conversion of the binder component to alpha-hemihydrate; (c) removing the dehydrated mixt. from the autoclave and holding it at above 80 deg. C prior to moulding; (d) moulding the mixt. to articles; and (e) drying the articles. USE/ADVANTAGE - Useful for mfg. gypsum fibreboard, as well as tubes, angle profiles and the like. It allows extremely simple and rational mfr. of the articles starting from dihydrate and gives high quality products which require practically no further treatment.
