A method and apparatus for machining a corner section of a workpiece using an NC controlled electro-discharge machine, where an NC program is prepared using an automatic programming device 10. A cutter location (CL) data transform unit 12 transforms the shape-of-product data from an input unit 11 into data for the locus of the wire electrode path. The NC program preparation unit 13 prepares the code instructions for the control of the machining. Activation of a corner-machining control switch 14 allows inputting of control parameters (via device 16), such as standard corner angle for determining the necessity of the corner-machining control and an interval for the machining-corner control, either prior, after or both before and after, a corner section. This minimises error when cutting the corner section induced by a lag in the direction of advance of the wire electrode.
