The surface of a wire or bar is ground with the aid of a rotating disc (1) with a central hole (2) through which the wire or bar is passed. The disc (1) carries two groups of rollers (3 to 6) and (7 to 10) with each group of rollers guiding an endless belt (11) and (12) with an abrasive coating. The belts are pressed against the wire or bar by rollers (13) which are pressed radially inwards by hydraulic cylinders (14) and the belt tension is maintained by rollers (15) which are pressed against the belt by hydraulic cylinders (16). The belts are driven by their respective rollers as the disc (1) rotates, to grind the entire surface of the wire or bar. USE - Grinding of wire or bar.
