PURPOSE:To obtain the subject crystals, remarkably improved in purity and stability and useful as a remedy for wounds, etc., by dissolving a basic fibroblastic growth factor (bFGF) protein in a solvent consisting essentially of water in a high concentration, adding a water-soluble substance thereto and depositing the crystals. CONSTITUTION:An expression vector containing a DNA capable of coding a bFGF protein is introduced into Escherichia coli, etc., which is then transformed. The resultant transformant is cultured to prepare a bFGF protein, which is subsequently dissolved in a solvent consisting essentially of water in a high concentration. A water-soluble substance (e.g. polyethylene glycol) is then added to the obtained solution and regulated to pH6.0 with an aqueous solution of sodium citrate, etc. The regulated solution is subsequently allowed to stand for 4 days to deposit crystals. Thereby, the objective crystals of the bFGF protein are obtained. |
