To carry out measurements in which granules of the thermoplastic to be tested loaded into a vertical, heatable test cylinder (PZ) are extruded by a pressure piston (13) loaded with specified weights through a nozzle (15) at the lower base of the test cylinder (PZ) into the free space, the loading of the pressure piston (13) is brought about by a balance beam (5) which can be moved vertically and can be variously loaded by an adjustable test weight (8) and the rate of movement is altered and/or the test weight (8) is moved as a function of the deflection of the balance beam (5) from the horizontal zero position. Special forms of the suspension (6) of the balance beam (5) on a rotary element held by tightening bands for securing the adjustment of the loading with high accuracy.
