A releasable locking device for extension ladders comprises a step part with a locking element 2 which can pivot on a side piece 1 and is designed to prevent mutual movement of two step parts relative to each other by means of the locking element 2 coming to bear against a rung 3 on the second step part. In order to obtain increased resistance to bending of the step in the lateral direction, there is arranged on the same side piece, on which the locking element is provided, a pivotable auxiliary element 4 which is coupled to the locking element 2 in such a way that the auxiliary element 4 causes the locking element to pivot away from its locked position during part of its pivoting movement, the auxiliary element 4 comprising a lock projection 5 designed to lock on that side of the rung 3 opposite the one against which the locking element 2 locks. <IMAGE> |
