The membrane seal (1) is used to seal spindles (3) with a reciprocating motion of small amplitude and where no stuffing box is fitted. The membrane is supported on both sides or just the unpressurised side, over its complete surface, by supports (4). ADVANTAGE - An absolute seal is achieved for use at high pressure and temp. and with high frequency spindles.
