The toolholder consists of three main parts : a cylindrical housing (10) fastened in a recess of the tool slide of the machine; an intermediate sleeve (16) which is axially fixed but can be rotated; and a central spindle (20) which has a platform (18) at one end for the tooltip (12) and a screw thread (21) at the other in engagement with a corresponding internal thread (22) in the sleeve (16). When the sleeve is turned by means of the hexagonal section (52) the spindle (20), which is prevented from rotating by a key (30) sliding in the housing (10), is moved along its axis, allowing the tool position to be precisely adjusted. The sleeve is axially preloaded between a threaded ring (78) and a spring collet (60) with tapered end surfaces. As well as eliminating axial play, the collet closes on the sleeve and removes all clearance in the screw thread. ADVANTAGE - Tooltip can be precisely adjusted without play.
