In a microbicidal wood preservative contg. a water-soluble, cationic or cationisable microbicidal cpd. (I), (I) is bound, in the form of a water-insol. reaction prod., to a resin acid or its deriv.. (I) is pref. an N-contg. cpd., esp. chloroacetamide (Ia) and/or a quat. ammonium cpd., esp. an alkyl-dimethylbenzylammonium chloride. USE/ADVANTAGE - The compsns. are used to protect open-pored wooden articles against penetration by fungal mycelium, esp. boxes used to grow mushrooms. They generate nontoxic prods. (contrast polychloro cpds.); remain in the wood for a long time and cannot subsequently be detected in the mushrooms.
