1,159,405. Writing instruments. SCHNEIDER G.m.b.H. GEB. 6 Sept., 1966 [18 Sept., 1965], No. 39707/66. Heading B6P. The writing point 1 of a reservoir writing instrument, which may be used in recording apparatus, is conical with radial incisions providing resilient lips 6 meeting at an axial line k. Pressure on the point during writing causes the surfaces f between the lips to separate sufficiently for ink to flow from the reservoir along the line k to the point. An absorbent pad (8, Fig. 1), may be provided in the point adjacent to the lips 6. The writing point 1 may be made of a resilient plastic such as polyamide or of metal. In the latter case, the incisions may be made by means of a laser beam. The external surface of the lips 6 may be electroplated. The point 1 may form part of or be attached to the reservoir which can be of rubber (Fig. 7), or which may be transparent and closed at its end remote from the point by an air-permeable plug (10, Fig. 1). As shown in Fig. 6, the point 1 is attached to a reservoir 12 enclosed in a casing 17 so as to provide a heat insulating space 22. A resilient member 23 urges the reservoir in the direction of the point. A pasty layer 14 of silicone grease or metal soap floats on and moves with the free surface of the ink in the reservoir. To ensure its slidable sealing engagement with the inner wall of the reservoir, the layer 14 may have embedded in it a rigid or flexible member 24 which may be ball-shaped (Fig. 5). A slide-on cap 19 for the instrument has a resilient pad 20 with a depression 21 to receive the point 1. Two reservoirs 12 with points 1, but of half the length shown in Fig. 6, may be fitted in the casing 17, the point 1 of the second instrument bearing against the member 23 which is suitably-shaped to receive it. |
