PURPOSE: To obtain a terminal adapter for connecting plural communication channels by including a block checking character calculator, means for detecting the reception of a control network management header, and means for setting the calculator to a prescribed state corresponding to the state of the calculator, and operating the calculation of the block checking character according to this. CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with plural HDLC communication channel receivers 400 including a block checking character(BCC) calculator 460 for calculating and checking the validity of a received high level data link controlled(HDLC) control network management(CNM) frame. Moreover, this device includes a means for detecting the reception of a prescribed CNM header included in a CNM frame on one HDLC communication channel, and a means for initializing the BCC calculator 460 to a decided state according to this detection. Thus, a terminal adapter for a remote communication network having plural HDLC receivers 400 which can be shared among the plural HDLC communication channels can be obtained.
