A laminated sheet of material comprises a base layer of flexible material carrying a colouring material upon at least one surface thereof bonded to a top layer of transparent rigid thermoplastic synthetic resin, having a structure such that will change colour upon being subjected to cold flow deformation by embossment, the said layer of flexible material being fixed in such a manner that the colouring matter is visible through the transparent layer and operates as a base layer thereto. Specified base layers are non-ferrous metal foils, e.g. of aluminium, brass, copper or lead, fabric and polyvinyl chloride. The specified top layer is polyvinyl chloride. Three specific embodiments are disclosed:-In Fig. 1, 11 is a base layer of metal foil provided with a colouring agent 13 (when 11 is aluminium, 13 may be anodized aluminium), 12 is a rigid thermoplastic material, 14 a pressure sensitive adhesive and 15 a protective backing material, e.g. polyethylene, embossing being effected by applying pressure as indicated by arrows 16 and 17, the protective backing then being removed and the article applied to the desired surface; in Fig. 2, 21 is a base layer of fabric, 22 is a rigid thermoplastic material, 23 and 24 are pressure sensitive adhesive layers and 25 is a protective backing, the colouring matter may be included in 21 or 23; in Fig. 3, 31 is a flexible thermoplastic base layer, carrying an homogeneously dispersed colouring material, 32 is a rigid thermoplastic material, 33 is a pressure sensitive adhesive and 34 is a protective backing. The layers may be assembled by the application of pressure and possibly heat and the top layer may be calendered. |
