PURPOSE:To improve the display quality by forming a conductive light shield layer in an area of one electrode corresponding to the gap between other electrodes and also forming an electric insulating cell thickness control member which has light shielding performance in areas other than picture element areas. CONSTITUTION:The conductive light shield layer 7a is formed in the area of one electrode 3a corresponding to the gap between other electrodes 3b, and the electric insulating cell thickness control member 8 which has light shielding performance is formed in the areas other than the picture element areas. Therefore, light which is transmitted through the areas other than the picture element areas is cut off by the light shield layer 7a and cell thickness control member 8 which has the light shielding performance to make the areas equal in brightness, and the difference in brightness remarkable between the picture element areas and other areas. Further, when a conductive light shield layer 7a which has conductivity is formed in the lengthwise direction of one beltlike electrode 3a, the attenuation of a voltage applied to one electrode 3a is reduced and a voltage applied to a liquid crystal layer 9 becomes uniform. Consequently, uniform display characteristics are obtained and the display quality is improved greatly. |
