The safe storage compartment (1) with doors on opposite sides permitting access from outside as well as inside a secure room has identical locks on both doors. The locks comprise a conventional sliding bolt mechanism (2,3,5,6a,6b,7a,7b) operated by mechanical, electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic means via slidebar (8) initiated by key, number code, magnetic card, etc. (not shown). Each bolt (2) has a solenoid (10) operated latch (9) held off by tension spring (13) and engaged by solenoid (10) when energised from source Ub via contacts (16a,16b) in the opposite door lock as soon as this is unlocked for opening. In this way the simultaneous opening of both doors is prevented. ADVANTAGE - Provides positive interlocking of doors to meet security requirements of room, door closing results in automatic locking without further action of key or card, does not require any special and separate safety system.
