New perylene compounds based on perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic monoanhydride monoimides substituted on one or both imide nitrogen atoms by alkylene- or arylenesulphonic groups, or on corresponding tetracarboxylic diimides or on a halogenated product thereof can be used not only as dispersing agents for pigments of the same class of compounds or other categories but also directly as pigments and fluorescent as well as polymer-soluble dyes.
