In a vacuum-lifting arrangement, there is a risk that the same may drop the load and in so doing harm the operator of the arrangement. This is avoided using a valve member provided with a protective function, consisting of three parts 10, 14 and 20, two of which are provided with openings 18 and 19 which coincide in the absence of a load and which are blocked in the presence of a load.
