<p>PURPOSE: To quickly and efficiently reduce a black-and-white image to a smaller gray scale image by selecting a specific gray scale value in accordance with numbers of black picture elements and white picture elements to assign it to each new picture element. CONSTITUTION: A central processing unit 14 of a data processing system 10 counts the number of black or white picture elements in a gray scale image. A count corresponding to numbers of black picture elements and white picture elements in each reduction gray scale image picture element is used to access a gray scale value in a gray scale value table, and this gray scale value is assigned to a new picture element in the reduction gray scale image. The obtained reduction gray scale image is displayed on a display device 20 through a display device driving mechanism 18.</p> |
