A magnetic tape video recorder has a brake unit that consists of pads that are mounted at the ends of pivot-mounted arms (4,5) and which are moved into contact with the surface of the head drum (11) and drive pinion. Engagement of the pads is controlled by a disc (3) that has a slot (3') to engage with a pin. The pin is mounted at the end of a link (19), the end of which presses against the ends of the brake pad links. Rotation of the disc by a loading ring (2) causes the pads to lift clear for all operating conductors. ADVANTAGE - Simplifies mechanism for VCR brake operators.
