Extensible prong for fork of fork-lift truck - incorporates lock to hold prong in retracted position

The fork of a fork-lift truck has each prong made in two parts (1,3) with the part (1) fitting telescopically inside the part (3). The prong is held in its extended position by an internal compression spring (11). The effective working length of the prong can be reduced by pressing the outer part (3) over the inner part (1). The prong can be held in this retracted position by means of a locking plate which slides in a guide on the inner end of the inner part (1). This locking plate has a key-hole slot which fits around a neck formed on the end of the longitudinal shaft (5) fitted inside the outer part (3). USE - Fork-lift trucks.
