On a ring spinning frame, in the region of the base of the spindle, there is a fixed and a revolving blade, co-axial to the spindle, with at least one indentation per blade, to cut the yarn. Pref. on the ringspinning frame, the drafting zone (3) carries yarn (4) across a thread brake (10) and eyelet (5), which holds the yarn as doffing takes place. The doffer (11) also has a thread brake (11'), so that the yarn is brought across the spindle (8) into the traveller on the ring, on the ringrail (7) when at the commencement of traverse. The yarn (4) is held in the grip at the base of the spindle which permits a moving cutter blade (14) and running counter to the fixed cutter blade (13), to sever the yarn when the spindle commences to revolve. The dia. of the cutter blades is less than the ring dia. With other doffing methods, the cutters are surrounded by yarn guides, by which means the yarn is retained at the point of severance until the spindle revolves, commencing the spin, and releasing the yarn end from the full cop. ADVANTAGE - On removal of a full cop by the doffer, the yarn is automatically severed at the point of re-commencement of spin.
