摘要 Racing tyres for cars and motorcycles must be preheated to working temp. before a race by a warm-up round of e.g. 6 miles. The high risk of accidents during this run has induced efforts to achieve this without any warm-up run. This has been achieved by applying a bandage of a hybrid carbon/glass fibre weave with longitudinal carbon fibres as heat conductors and glass fibres as insulators. Pref. the tyre warm-up bandage (1) consists outside of a flexible tear-proof textile material (2) with several flat cavities (4) sepd. by seams (3). Electrically heated C fibre conductors (5) have terminals (6) and glass fibre weft threads (9) to keep them apart and insulated, in addn. to warp glass threads. Crimp sleeves (10) are joined to a thermostat (12). A glow lamp (13) indicates that the power is ON. The cords (8) are used to tighten the bandage around the tyre. Heat losses are minimised by insulation (7). ADVANTAGE - This achieves a uniform preheat without local superheating and is easy to match various tyres. The 3 mm thickness facilitates its application. This method cuts out any risk of accidents.
