<p>(A) Optically active cpds. of formula (I):- where Y = lower alkyl. Salts with mineral or organic bases. Only one of the two possible enantiomers is shown. (B) Cpds. (III); (IV); (V); (VI); (VII); (IX); X. Intermediates. Dissolve the lactone (X;Y=CH3) (0.850 g) in a mixture of 2N-sodium hydroxide (5 cc) and ethanol (1cc) and reflux with agitation for 30 min. Cool to 0 deg. then add dropwise an aq. soln. of hydrochloric acid to pH 1, saturate the soln. with ammonium sulphate, extract the aq. phase with ethyl acetate, combine the extracts, wash and dry and evap. Triturate with Et2O and Pri2O to give dextro-rotatory I (0.675 g), m.p. 150 deg.</p> |
