A testing apparatus and method for an optical information memory medium such as an optical disk in an optical and noncontact manner, in which a laser light beam generated by a laser transducer is irradiated to an optical head or a reflecting mirror for tracking a groove of the optical information memory medium, and variations corresponding to mechanical characteristics such as a static deflection, a dynamic axial runout, an acceleration of axial runout, a dynamic radial runout, an acceleration of radial runout, an axial tilt angle, a circularity and the like, of the optical information memory are detected from the laser light beam reflected by the optical head or the reflecting mirror by a detector.
