An arrangement for a life jacket (1) involving a buoyancy aid (2) and a related buoyancy collar (3), where the collar's (3) effective opening (4, L1, L2) can be altered. The collar (3), which has a roughly horse-shoe shape, is attached at its two free ends to a buoyancy element (2) at a distance from the top of the buoyancy element, which amounts to ca. a third of its length. The life jacket has only one belt (5) which, with the help of a self-regulating locking clasp, ties the life jacket against the user's body. The collar's effective opening (4) in the dressing position has an initial length (L1), whilst the effective opening (4) in its 'in-use' position has a reduced length (L2).<IMAGE>
