The invention relates to a ruler (straight edge) intended to be placed between the book and the glass pane of the photocopying machine, under the hinge (binding), in order to fill in the space located there so as to eliminate the blurring and the dark bar which normally form there. It consists of at least one mass of transparent material having a refractive index which is markedly greater than that air. Its profile is largely that of a roof with gentle slopes. It comprises a means for wedging it in the hinge of the book and, in particular, acts by pushing back the extreme limit of clarity of machines for copying. <IMAGE>
