[Also in Division C7] A liquid electrode for use in a fuel cell with an air or oxygen cathode comprises a trough 1 having a slot 2 in its base, a metal plate 4 and a wire mesh 3, the strands of which are connected at one end to the plate 4 and at the other protrude into the slot in the trough. In operation mercury is introduced into the trough, flows down the wire mesh and forms a film flowing down both sides of the plate 4. The plate may be of steel and may have rounded edges and roughened sides. |
