The belt (1) is guided in the lower run (return run) shortly after the drive drum over a special drum structure which causes the damaged parts of the belt to gape apart. This is detected by a change in the distribution of the bearing forces of a pressure drum (3) which is mounted movable vertically to the direction of movement (7) of the belt (1) and results in the drive being switched off. The pressure drum (3) whose diameter tapers towards the centre, together with the guide rollers (2) which are mounted in their axes inclined to the moving direction (7) of the belt, cause an even distribution of the belt tension force over the entire belt cross-section.
