PURPOSE: To improve the resistance of a film against temperature by using a monomer expressed by a specific formula and capable of obtaining nematic phase or smectic phase as a whole. CONSTITUTION: The monomer, expressed by the formula I and capable of obtaining the nematic or smectic phase as a whole, is used. In the formula, B represents a cross-linking group, R expresses hydrogen atom or methyl group, M represents a mesogenic group containing at least a phenyl group and/or cyclohexyl group. A polarizing filter obtained by the method contains an oriented layer, in which a dissolved or finely dispersed dichromatic coloring agent is oriented and which has a regular netlike structure of a polymerized and oriented monomer. The polarizing filter produced in this way has thermal stability, and the orientation can be kept even when heated to extremely high temp., such as 350 deg.C. |
