Apparatus for conveying loads in shafts of great depth, characterised by: (a) at least one conveying unit (2) which is guided by at least one guide rail (16) running along the shaft (15); (b) at least one electronically commutated, permanent-magnet electric motor (8) for the drive of the conveying unit (2), which electric motor (8) is attached to the conveying unit (2); and (c) at least one toothed rack (20) running along the shaft (15) and at least one gear (14) which meshes with the toothed rack (20), is mounted on the conveying unit (2) and is connected to the electric motor (8) in a torque-transmitting manner.
