1,205,324. Gas analysis. UNISEARCH Ltd. Jan.22, 1968 [Jan.23, 1967], No.3209/68. Heading G1N. Apparatus for analyzing flue gas and suspended particles therein comprises an electrostatic precitator/ionization chamber for measuring the properties of the gas, surmounting a cell for measuring e.g. the resistance, loss angle or breakdown strength of the precipitated particles. The Precipitator ionization chamber comprises a central wire electrode 24 within a cylindrical earthed electrode 18, the chamber being maintained at a desired temperature by surrounding heater 32 and thermocouple 33. To avoid fringe effects the cylinder 24 may have directly earthed guard rings at the end, the central portion being earthed through e.g. an ammeter spark-rate-counter or C.R.T. "Resistance Cell" comprises a pair of coaxial cylindrical electrodes 41, 45 the inner having a "particle shedding" conical top. The electrodes may be heated by elements 48, 51 controlled by thermocouples 52, 53. The apparatus is rapped and vibrated to collect and compact particles in the cell before measuring their electrical properties in known manner.
