The container dispenses metered amts. of free-flowing material such as Ketchup, mustard, cream etc. from a vessel (1) with filler opening (29. A metering pump (3) with hand-operated reciprocating piston (7) is fixed by its body (5) to the opening edge (4). An inlet (9) and outlet (12), each with a non-return valve (8,11) are connected respectively to the vessel interior and a discharge passage (10). The piston is held in the starting position, typically by a coil-type compression spring (13). The pump body has portions (15,16) outside and inside the vessel, the latter containing the inlet with non-return valve. On the dividing line between the portions is a sealing membrane (17), burst open by the first full stroke of the piston from the starting position.
