Combination anti-rheumatic compsns. - contg. dapson and non-steroidal antiinflammatory agent

Compsns. for treating rheumatoid disorders contain dapson (I) and a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agent (II). (I) is diaminodiphenyl sulphone and is known as an antibacterial agent, esp. for treating leprosy. Pref. (II) is aspirin (IIa), ibuprofen (IIb), indomethacin (IIc) or esp. diclofenac (IId). Dosage units contain 50 mg of (I) and 500, 400, 25 or 50 mg of (IIa)-(IId) respectively. The compsns. are formulated for oral admin.. ADVANTAGE - Co-admin. of (I) allows the dose of (II) to be reduced by 30-50%, thereby reducing the risk of side effects e.g. gastric ulcers and gastric bleeding.
