摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the waveguide optical device which is ample in the form of wave front conversion at a low cost by totally reflecting waveguided light by a waveguide reflecting optical system formed as the boundary face of a waveguide layer and thereby subjecting this light to the wave front conversion. CONSTITUTION:The waveguide optical system 72A is formed as the boundary face of the waveguide layer 72 and the waveguided light is subjected to the wave front conversion by the total reflection of the waveguide reflecting optical system 72A. Namely, the guided light is subjected to the wave front conversion not by a refraction but by a reflection and, therefore, the wave front conversion function of the waveguide reflecting optical system 72A does not change at all even if the wavelength of the light changes. Since the waveguide reflecting optical system 72A is formed as the end face, etc., of the waveguide layer 72, the formation thereof is easy and further, the reflection of the waveguide optical system 72A is executed by the total reflection and, therefore, the need for subjecting the single surface of the waveguide layer to constitute the waveguide optical system to reflection treatment is eliminated.
